A spa any day for me is 4.5 stars out of a 5 when it comes to helping me relax and unwind. At a good price and to be treated like a queen now that's what I call a great deal. To top it all, it was my first time. So read on to know more, on what you could expect when you do finally visit a day spa.
The lobby was cute and small, but classy and elegant, as per my expectations. When I entered the foot massage room, it was an open lounge chaise where there were a few customers who had their eyes shut as the treatments were on and they seemed relaxed. The best part was that I got a private room for my body massage; hence the fear of my clothes to be shredded in front of other strangers was not there anymore.
The techniques administered were exactly what I expected from my therapist who I am sure were now an expert with spa massages. So effective was the massage that I eventually dozed off mid way through. I totally loved this dreamy experience. The rooms were lightest to dim with a more whimsy ambiance and more spa-like herbal scent.
Remember, if you are uncomfortable or do not wish a certain way of the treatment, you have the full right to speak up and guide the therapist to your liking. Sometimes while a massage is on you may feel that the techniques are being used with too much pressure, however, that is important since the therapist is trying to free your stuck chi, which is nothing but a form of negative energy trapped in the body, and is the cause for all forms of mental and physical diseases.
Talking about the foot treatments, this is what I got for a foot massage. A large, darkened room with about other customers getting their foot massages. Everyone was advised to switch of their cell phone/pager/running mouth so that the atmosphere around can help the others to relax and enjoy the experience. I even got to know that even if you do get a private room with a group of friends, please be conscious that others can hear you. Respect the spa space you are entitled to, without being a devil encroaching on others relaxation time.
After your feet are soaked in a large wooden bucket with an assortment of herbs and anti-microbial ingredients, acupressure points in your face and scalp are worked on with due diligence to help you de-stress. A little oil in your hair is used to help circulate the blood movements of your scalp, unless you tell the receptionist beforehand that you don't want it. Remember through this process you will have your clothes on for the full session. Your neck, shoulders, arms and hands are the next to be massaged and once that is done the much awaited lovely foot massage starts.
You can be kind enough and tip your massage therapist for a job well done. After all it is a hard task trying to make you feel pristine and somber through the whole session especially, when you have gathered a lot through your daily activity around and in your system. Remember, most of the spa technicians are immigrants and may not speak English well, however, it is not what they speak but the quality of service they are known for. If you are particular about anything, please make sure you communicate it clearly in English to the person at the front desk so you can have a good experience.
